Three Quick and Easy Ways You Can Adjust Your Summer Makeup Routine

Hey gals! It’s Deidre.

In the summer, I always try and embrace that common phrase “less is more” when it comes to my makeup. Once you have that nice base tan from spending time in the sun, it’s easier to wear less makeup, but still look as though you have color in your face. This is my favorite thing about summer.

We’re going for that natural, glowy, fresh-faced look during the warmer months.

Here are 3 quick and easy ways you can adjust your summer makeup routine:

1. Switch To A Tinted Moisturizer

When it’s hot outside, the last thing you want is to feel like you have this thick layer of foundation just melting right off your face. Once you have a little color from the sun, you won’t feel as though you need such full coverage makeup. If you have scars and/or dark spots, they won’t be as noticeable when you have a tan and if you’re prone to breakouts, that won’t happen as much when your skin is exposed to a little more of that Vitamin D. So lighten up on your base by switching to a tinted moisturizer (click here for one I absolutely love) and you’ll feel much fresher throughout the day!

You should still use a brush when applying tinted moisturizer for an even, consistent application.

2. Don’t Make Eyeliner Part Of Your Day Look

You have a bigger chance of experiencing “raccoon eyes” in the summer, strictly because of the heat. Yes, there are certain eyeliners that stay on better than others, but you can avoid this altogether by taking eyeliner out of your daytime routine in the summer. This is hard for some people, but there are ways around it! Instead of drawing on that thick line of black and hoping it doesn’t smudge by your 3pm meeting, try using eyeshadow instead.

Brown eyeshadow applied with a small angled brush can take the place of your black eyeliner for a less bold, no-smudge option. (Style Vault Insiders, get the angled brush I love for this! Details are inside the June Vault, Style Notes section!)

3. Try a Nude Lip

The darker lip colors you’re used to wearing all fall and winter can easily be exchanged for a nude lip in spring and summer. Not only do you easily avoid the lipstick on tooth problem, but you appear to have a fresher, more natural look, which goes perfect with the season. Plus, it takes less time to apply because it’s not as obvious if you mess up a little! (We all love putting on lips real quick at a red light.) A dark lip stain requires a slow and steady hand because if you color outside the lines, it’s not easy to get off your face! So go throw on a nude lip and embrace this beautiful weather!

Either peach or pink are good undertones to look for in a nude lipstick color because you never want it to be the exact color of your skin. That would be kind of gross. Vault Insiders, I’ve added a couple great options inside the June Style Vault, Style Notes section!

I hope this helps you with your fresh, new summer makeup routine. Don’t forget that “less is more” this season, and don’t be afraid to keep it glam for nightly events!
