It's so easy I can't stop dressing like this. I pick one color (or non-color like white) and wear all different shades in that range. So take white; I'll wear ivory, pearl, ecru, etc. all together. It seems this way of one-tone dressing has really caught on. It's chic and it looks expensive. Dressing in shades of grey is the "of the moment" one-tone dressing game. Charcoal, dove, cloud, fog, pewter. And there's a name for this kind of dressing in shades of grey. Groutfits.

Urban dictionary defines a groutfit as (noun) : an outfit made completely of gray. If you're tired of adult garanimals, matching your blue and white stripe blouse to a blue skirt, then groutfits are for you. It's a bit more sophisticated and interesting way to dress. Choose any shade. Take pink. Wearing a pink and green floral blouse with a pink skirt is cute and simple, but when you wear all different shades of pink, it's more subtle and complex. Like a pink blouse with a peach skirt, and coral earrings. Tone-on-tone dressing comes off as a bit more elegant and expensive, too.

 

You will be shocked when I tell you one of my style crushes. Kendall Jenner. In fact, I had pinned her wearing all grey way before I knew it was a thing, thankyouverymuch. haha But seriously I've been wearing shades of grey for years. And shades of ivory. And blue. And green.

The key to mastering this tone-on-tone dressing is to keep it simple. Don't go overboard on any one element. Everything must feel subtle and tonal with no jarring accessories. It works best with non-straightforward colors like peach and coral as opposed to bright pink, or turquoise and sea glass as opposed to straight up blue. You can wear black on black on black; just mix up the textures like leather with fur and lace for example.

Give it a try. People will wonder what is going on with you, why you look so elegant and pulled together, and they can't figure out why. It's our little secret.
