Eyelet For Everyone!
I've been wearing eyelet for over 50 years. (I literally just had a flashback as I was writing that sentence to these eyelet-trimmed numbers my mother used to dress me in, under my smocked dresses of course.) I had bobby socks trimmed in eyelet, blouses, dresses, jumpers, anything and everything you could put it on! So feminine, and as summery as iced tea and fresh cut flowers. It's light, airy, romantic and delicate. Known as broderie anglaise, it actually goes back to the 1500's. So I'd say we're safe calling it a classic. And it's a classic that's been having an on-trend moment for the past few seasons. I'm still wearing eyelet blouses and dresses. Here are some easy ways to wear eyelet without it skewing toddler-esque or prairie girl.
These are the Jane eyelet pants in black. There's a matching top, but it was too cropped for me. The pants are available for $182 from Barlow, one of the adorable boutiques in St. Francisville. Call them at 225-434-1988 to order your pair (they aren't online). My tank top is "orange cream." I threw over my shoulders a Faherty hoodie. With a wide pant, I often like a flat shoe, and these slides are perfect. And I'm loooooving these pearly shades. On my ears I'm wearing Tara Shaw locusts earrings from the Cotton Exchange, a gift from the owner Lauren!
For another look, I popped on the Brielle polo - which has a touch of eyelet trim.
