Shorts - Can You Wear Them?

Shorts. Short-shorts. Bermuda shorts. Jorts. Is there a cut-off age to wearing shorts? I am compelled to say not exactly, but with that said, I do feel compelled to bar the door and throw away the key altogether on one particular category of shorts that should never, ever appear on your legs. Yes, that's right. Short-shorts. They're banned. (As if I needed to even mention it, but you never know.) Mkay cupcakes? Meanwhile, when should you stop wearing all the other legal shorts? I say it's not so much a matter of age, as it is of the condition of your knees and ankles. If you feel good about them, then shorts are still your friend, albeit a bit longer than you may have worn in your 30's and 40's. If you are overly conscious about sagging knees and fuller ankles, then embrace an easy day dress and a good sneaker. Or an ankle pant (these are on the Anniversary Sale!). And if you can throw off the self-consciousness of aging that so easily drags us down, then well done and may we all aspire to think less of ourselves and not worry about what aging does to us. Which reminds me of a relevant exhortation by Jen Wilkin that I will quote here in full:
Don't let a youth-obsessed culture rob you of your sense of the value of all parts of life. We need our aging faces and slowing bodies to tell us the truth: that time is passing, and that it is exceedingly precious. Each season yields its own exquisite fruit. No need to cling to what was never meant to last. God is faithful in every season.
Ooooh I just love that. Each season yields its own exquisite fruit. Amen. So let's look at some ways we women of a certain age can wear shorts, and shorts-alternatives.

Shorts For Summer
Quick point of reference - Bermuda shorts are typically 9"- 10" inseam. I'm 5'5" and I don't like to wear anything shorter than a 5" inseam. a good middle of the road length is a 7" inseam.
