Summer Manicures and Pedicures

Tina, here.

I don't even know myself anymore. I've become a girl who paints her nails pink. Next stop: pink hair.

Summer Manicures and Pedicures

It must be a phase I'm going through. I just can't get enough pink lately. So, I painted my nails pink for summer. This color is Two Hr Lunch by Orly . It's a bright, deep pink, the color of your grandmother's peonies.

Summer Manicures and Pedicures

These are the colors Barbara and I have in our polish wardrobe. She's a brunette and I'm blonde-ish. But we discovered we are drawn to the same colors. With us, it's more about classic colors than fads. I've never shied away from bright colors for my toes, but I've found myself already reaching this summer for a bright pink or melon for my hands. You'll never see us in blue polish. If you do, you have our permission to document it.

Here are the colors in our polish wardrobes for summer manicures and pedicures (Style Vault Insiders, don't miss the brand new colors we just added to the June Style Notes - the new polishes on our shopping list we'll be adding to our collections. clockwise from top left:

Essie Cute As A Button, a peachy-pink, good on fair-skinned and dark skins alike

Essie Tarte Deco (the color on amazon looks way off, so don't be alarmed),  a perennial favorite of mine, a gorgeous melon color good for any skintone

Essie Vanity Fairest, probably one of your favorites already, but I'll put it on my toes just to be different (but looks best on feet with a little sun)

Essie Resort Fling, a sheer, soft peach

Essie Muchi Muchi, a chalky pink with just enough color to know you've got something on your nails, but it's not overbearing

Essie Jag-U-Are (sold out, for a similar orangey-red try Hip-Anema)

Butter Macbeth, a vivid pinky-red, best on tanned or dark skin, or I'll wear it on my toes even though I have fair skin (the contrast is not as shocking on your toes as it can be on your hands)

Butter Trout Pout, a bit more saturated than the picture looks, it's a rich coral that flatters every skintone (Amazon stock is running low)

Summer Manicures and Pedicures

Barbara and I don't like a lot of opalescence in our polish colors. Nor are we fans of blue, green or black nail colors. I have Essie Merino Cool on my toes (a purply-grey) and Barbara has Essie Tarte Deco on her toes. She also has a French manicure which is so classic.

Here are a couple more tips for your summer manicures and pedicures:

  • Short fingers? If you have little hands or short fingers, a dark color will make them appear even shorter, even if your nails are long. So choose a lighter color or stick with neutrals.
  • Yellow nails? To whiten your nails after too much polish-wearing, mix 1 Tbsp peroxide with 2 1/4 tsp baking soda to make a paste, and leave on your nails for about 5 minutes.
