Layers are your friend this time of year. A sleeveless top with a pashmina for when the sun goes down are my go-to's for early fall football games.

You'll be hearing this tip from me a lot this fall. Earth tones + white jeans = late summer appropriateness.

I just carry my pashmina over my arm when not in use, and then wrap it casually around my shoulders when the sun goes down if it gets a bit cool. Shop my fave fall pashminas in the August Style Vault, Style Notes.

Just that little bit of animal print says fall while the rest says, it's still stinkin' hot out here.

Neutrals play well together. I've got on white jeans (all my faves are in the Style Vault, skinny, bootcut, petite, tall, curvy), a dark grey and ivory animal print blouse, ivory pashmina, and a camel clutch. I call it blending or tone-on-tone. I am featuring my fave new clutch in the August Style Vault - it's cognac, too! Perhaps the best of all neutrals. Besides white obvi.

My cowboy boots start coming out to play in late August because I just miss them so much all summer. These Fryes are a soft grey shade which pair well with whites and other soft neutrals. A mid-rinse jean or faded rinse jean is the sensible transition piece. It's not stark summer white, and it's not dark winter blue. I, for one, have been collecting and wearing faded rinse jeans for years. When my 14 pairs of white jeans are dirty.

Did you know that linen is considered year-round now? Along with anything suede and our trusty white jeans. The key to wearing linen in late summer/early fall is to wear the right tones and shades, like this ivory and brown stripe blazer. And you'll see how I wore it over a cognac top to ground it a little.

As I said, I have been buying up faded rinse blue jeans for years now. They were hard to find when I first started hunting them down, and now finding just the right shade of faded is hard still. These are from Zara (bought about 4 years ago) but I got you dolls. My new fave pairs of faded rinse jeans just got added to the August Style Vault. Skinny and bootcut, both under $75!

Flats or a wedge make walking the bleachers easier. I'll switch over to my brown wedges which feel a bit more seasonal. Suede is year-round. So are peep-toes. But because these wedges have a rope heel, they will hibernate once cool weather hits. There are some great wedges and flats in the August Style Vault.

I might alternate my white jeans and white denim skirt with a faded rinse denim skirt. Same rules apply: wear with neutrals and earth tones.
