A Key Fall Transition Piece: The Vest
Tina, here.
Vests. Love 'em or hate 'em but vests are big this fall. And not just for men. They’ve always been a favorite of mine, because they are such a useful layering piece during the summer transition to fall. There's a new modern, more relaxed way to wear vests. Here's how.
And wait.

My vest is a Katherine Hooker custom piece. Yes, that Katherine Hooker, who dresses the Duchess. I had it made up in a traditionally spring color palette, but I had it lined in velvet so I could transition it to Fall.

The denim skirt roughs up my vest a bit for the new season. You can put a t-shirt or a blouse under a vest.
You can also wear a vest with jeans as it gets even cooler. And you'll probably want to switch from a short-sleeve tee to a long-sleeve tee mid-season. But I do love the look of short-sleeves under a vest.

I bring out my brown and grey t-shirts come fall, and wear them with jeans instead of my citrus hues. Wow! The faded rinse jeans I featured last month in the Style Vault sold out! So I just added another pair of my fave faded rinse jeans (they're a medium flare) to the Style Notes section of the September Vault.

You can wear your vest open IF it is fitted through the waist and hips, so that we don't lose your figure under there altogether.
I love a dressy vest, too. A perfect black vest can be soooo useful. I wear mine with jeans and fancy skirts. Not dresses.

I've had my black suit vest for ages, but don't worry, there's an incredible one in the September Vault, plus I just added a link to one like the one I'm wearing here.

A black suit vest (you may have one hiding in your closet) looks modern when paired with unexpected partners like denim and neutral accessories.
Here's how I dress up my black vest:

I have these silky ankle pants that are a little looser-fitting. I love this silhouette. You're going to see, clothes are getting a bit looser this season. But don't take that as license to wear your baggy, frumpy clothes, my dears.

You can pair a fitted vest over a loose silk tank or shell, and if the shell peeks out the bottom of the vest, that's fine too.

Have I told you about my new shoes??! I'm so in love with the mule. I grabbed these at the end of summer sale (Prada) and they are so comfy and cool. To wear mules right, you have to have the right mules. Your loafer mules from Harold's 10 years ago are not right. I put a much more sensible mule/clog in the September Vault that you would actually wear every day. If you're not a member, you can join here.
Everybody wants a fur vest. I love shearling vests, too. Faux is totally fine. As long as it doesn't feel like a wet dog's coat.

Shearling is bulky by nature. See how this one has a waist? That's a great feature. So I added this vest to the September Style Vault so you can have it, too. Comes in curvy as well. Welcome.

Shearling looks best with something more rugged like jeans, unless it's a highly-styled version that's kinda Alpine Fancy. I've got on ankle boots, but you could wear tall boots over skinny jeans since this version is a little longer and covers your bum. (So many good boots in the September Vault and bonus edition on shoes!)
