The Best Way To Wear Pattern In Summer

Tina, here.

Something is happening to me. I am wearing more pattern and color than I ever have. I think it's because it's Summer (and I always wear a little pattern and color during the hotter months), but it's also because I'm seeing so many more pretty colors and patterns out there than we've seen in a long time! But don't worry, I'm still addicted to white clothes. And white makes wearing color work.

In fact, white is THE KEY to wearing color well.

Wearing Color and Pattern Well: The Rules

1. Add white.

White acts as a soft foil to the louder color and pattern. Not everything can be the statement. Not everything can ask for attention. Also, if you can't wear a certain color next to your face, you can wear it on the bottom half with white (or ivory) next to your face.

2. Tone-on-Tone

I find the best way to wear color is to take the tone-on-tone approach. See how my pants are 2 shades of pink? I love doing this with blue as well. Like faded jeans with a navy top. Or navy and turquoise.

Ok so I did add one more color, turquoise earrings. I was feeling daring.  And it's easier to take these kinds of bold risks in the Summer. ;)

I love these Lilly pants, too, in tone-on-tone blues!
