Feeling Nostalgic For These Summer Classics
Tina, here.
Ever since I leafed through, no, inhaled, my first J.Crew catalog as a teenager while I was babysitting across the street, I was transported into the world of coastal cottages, campfires on the beach, white jeans, madras plaid and rollneck sweaters for days. Did we realize how epic that first J.Crew landing would be? How those catalogs would become the underwriters of our own style twists and turns through the following decades? Embroidered shorts and Irish linen button-downs, brightly colored t-shirts and chinos in color combinations we'd never worn like guava and tangerine, and aaaalllll those grosgrain ribbon rubber flip-flops! And, it was completely mail-order back then, remember? Remember the red phone?!
I eventually realized why I loved J.Crew so much - it was the poor girl's Ralph Lauren.
And let's face it, Ralph Lauren can do no wrong. I still love polos and bermuda shorts, flag sweaters (just in time for the Fourth!), quilted jackets and brogues. Always will. But yay for the internet! We can find substitutions for a lot of these classics at fast fashion prices. Here's a mix of high-low outfits from which you can pick and choose.
