Frayed Hem Jeans Are A Thing and You Can Wear Them
Tina, here.
There's a new jean in town. Not the adorable kick flare that has everyone scrambling for a pair and some people thinking I'm advocating capris (as if! those evil things? never!), but the frayed hem jeans. I actually fell for this look personally last spring and even floated it here, but this season it has gained full steam and is a bonafide "fun trend to try." I am using the word trend because I think it will be approached by some, but not all.

I can actually see my elegant mother boppin' around in these in Monteagle, where our summer home was, with Tretorns and a pretty cotton voile blouse. But I'll admit, today frayed hem jeans have a more sophisticated boho vibe than swan in the summer. But you can change that by pairing them with a fun jacket and chic lady pumps.
Since I am determined to get as many uses as possible out of every article of clothing I own (which is why you see the same pieces recycled over and over and over again on this blog), I am showing you how to wear frayed hem jeans to a party, in a casual office, and on regular old day running errands. And, by the way, this is a do-it-yourself project, too (scroll to the bottom for directions).

Somedays you just want to look cute without trying. Well, maybe most days! So grab a white blouse or tunic (opt for a longer tunic if you're disguising the mid-section), your frayed hem jeans and espadrilles. Voila. Your friends will start calling you Jane (as in Birkin, take a look here).

Afraid of white? That's ok, most people are, especially if you are prone to spill or have little hands grabbing at you all day. But white looks so fresh on blondes, brunettes and redheads! Which is one reason I feature white so often. All you need is this stain remover by Roux Maison. I swear by it. It is magic science. Check out their swimsuit detergent, too, just in time for spring break!

Aren't you so happy espadrilles are still the it spring and summer shoe! I have been collecting them for years and years when I could find them (so Jackie O), and now you barely have to walk in a store and boom there are all sorts. So keep wearing yours from last season, and if you see a cute pair, snatch them up before they go into hibernation again for the next fashion cycle. The ones I'm wearing are Valentino knock-offs from Target, last season, and here's a similar pair. The reason you see us recycling the same pieces over and over in new, fresh ways on the blog is because this is how we shop for ourselves - we buy things that have mileage, and never overspend on trends that have a short shelf life. No one can buy new stuff all the time! Not even other bloggers! (What you see here are my own clothes.) We're like you - making do with what we have and reinventing each season! Which is what makes us "the Consumer Reports of fashion" (one Style Vault Insider recently said this and we loved it!).

You can make your own frayed hem jeans by just cutting the bottoms off your jeans right above the hem, and using your hands to fray them a bit more, or take the hem out with a seam ripper, and let the ends just fall. They'll fray naturally.
Style Vault members, make sure you pay special attention to the silky blouses and frayed hem jeans like ones similar in this post that we just added to the March Style Notes. Also added, a white linen tunic, Tina's blue suede pumps, similar sparkly flats, tassel necklace (a similar white jacket is featured in March Style Notes, for the previous post).
