Here's A Quick Way To Refresh Your Spring Wardrobe

Tina, here.

In the spirit of beckoning spring, we're talking today about how to prepare your wardrobe for a new season. Because it's probably time to refresh your spring wardrobe. Have you done this in a while? Removed the stained white t-shirts and dated Harold's dresses? Here's a quick way to refresh your spring wardrobe.

How To Refresh Your Spring Wardrobe

It's time to clean out the old and stained stuff from last year. Don't take this stuff to the lake. They are old and stained. Time for new white t-shirts!

Speaking of spring wardrobes, the all-new April Style Vault goes live Wednesday April 1! All new must-haves for Spring shoppable right from the Vault. $175 in savings for Vault insiders. Shop early to save!

You need a white t-shirt that is thick enough so it's not see-through and thin enough so it doesn't look like a gym shirt. I found it and Style Vault Insiders get access to it.

The Perfect White T-Shirt

The perfect white tee is one of the holy grails of the complete wardrobe. Don't congratulate yourself if you have a lot of white t-shirts already. Based on our experience, 9 out of 10 of yours are wrong. (Sorry.) Notice here how I have scrunched it up on the sides, and it is longer in the front. That is to create the sense of a waistline and it camouflages the mid-section. The v-neck is imperative. This will open you up and create a long, lean line.

Here are the wrong kind of white t-shirts:

A crew neck is boyish and looks stuffy. See how it's pulled down around the hips? Big no. Always scrunch it up a little. If you feel the need to pull your t-shirt down, it is too short.

Avoid pockets on t-shirts at all costs. Plus, this one is see-through.

This t-shirt is too roomy. And not in the modern way clothes are made to be slouchy. More in the sloppy way. If you wear oversized clothes, you appear to be oversized.

Here's how you're going to wear your white t-shirt.

It's great for any ole day with jeans.

The Perfect White T-Shirt

You can either tuck in your white t-shirt or leave it out. Totally up to you. Add fun accessories with a classic t-shirt and jeans look.

It's great for going out to dinner paired with a fancy-schmancy skirt.

The Perfect White T-Shirt

A white t-shirt makes the sparkly skirt less formal, in that "you're so Nashville if you wear tees and sequins" way.

It's great for going to the ballgame, and getting dirty. That's because you have my favorite stain remover (inside April's Vault!)

The Perfect White T-Shirt

A knit skirt and sandals with a t-shirt is a cool, easy summer uniform. (Yes, those are ankle straps. They are narrow, and I have small ankles.)

We strongly believe in not spending much money at all, like under $25 if possible, on a white tee. That's because they will get stained and you will need to toss them after two seasons. And of course your pitted and stained white t's are only good for polishing silver. Speaking of stains, you need a good stain remover for all the white clothes I'm imploring you to buy this spring. This one has gotten me out of a pickle a time or two or three or four. (Style Vault insiders - go inside the April Vault April 1 to get a special discount code.)

The second way to refresh your spring wardrobe is with a dress. You may not have to buy a new one...keep reading.

How To Refresh Your Spring Wardrobe

You need a spring dress you can have on hand for those showers and luncheons and graduations you'll be attending. Don't worry, you just need one, maybe two dresses because I can show you how to wear it several different ways so it looks like a whole new outfit each time you wear it. This is that pretty dress from J. McLaughlin with my own denim jacket (all available inside the Vault. Only 3 more days to save 15% on the dress!).

And here is the same dress kicked up a notch with a blazer and dress shoes.

Here's another dress idea. You know that LBD you are kind of tired of wearing because it took you everywhere this winter? Not so fast. Keep it in the rotation. Here's how.

How To Refresh Your Spring Wardrobe

I've had this Loft ponte black dress for several years. I wear it with warm jackets and boots in the winter, and with this fitted short-sleeve silk peplum jacket in the spring (from BCBG of all places, years ago). I switch from boots to a nude heel and a light color clutch to make the whole ensemble feel light and springy.

The dress is a sleeveless shift, which makes it easy to carry from one season into another.

Here's another way to wear your LBD in spring.

How To Refresh Your Spring Wardrobe

Same black Loft dress, this time more casual with a white denim jacket (vintage Gap) and grey suede heels and pearls. Because Southern girls wear pearls with everything.

A third great way to refresh your spring wardrobe? A fab jacket or spring coat, because there's still a chance for cool mornings and evenings. So it's still an important part of your ensemble. As in, don't throw on a fleece vest as an afterthought. I happen to love a spring coat. The same rules apply for a spring coat as for a winter coat: I like the length to hit right above the knees for versatility, florals are fun but hard to mix and match, and a trench coat fills in fine if you don't have an actual spring topper.

This is nautical chic, to quote my friend Suzy. When she pulled it out to show me, I threw it on, even though it is not my size. Sweater coats are the best. Cozy and warm like a blanket. You can check it out here.
