How To Wear the New Boho Luxe Like An Adult

The old boho thing is about over. It's run its course. But you know what's replacing it? A grown-up version we like to call Boho Luxe. No more sloppy, oversized embellished sacks and flower crowns and granny boots. It's not just fringe and crochet; oh no, it's much more glam broderies anglaise and guipure lace. Stevie Nicks has left the house. Chanel, Gucci, J. Crew and even Lilly Pulitzer are filling it back up and creating their own boho luxe. Which means it has already trickled down to more approachable price points for us.

This loose crochet blouse looks great with skinny jeans or bootcut jeans. You just have to balance the fullness with something fitted. That's the rule.

Here are three ways to wear boho luxe like an adult.

1. Pick one element of boho luxe, like an Off the Shoulder Crochet Top, and that's it.

Instead of overwhelming myself with ruffles, fabric and pattern, I choose one nod to boho luxe and the rest is pretty quiet.

Ok, ok, so I did add a teeny bit of fringe with my leather cross body. But it's in a neutral and not a loud color, nor does it have wild embroidery. So still nothing competes with the crochet blouse. Style Vault Insiders, check out more options in the May Vault, in Style Noes.

2. Balance a lace top with a structured jacket.

A delicate lace top gets some grounding with a structured, yet still fun jacket.

Here you can see my lace top is pretty breezy and delicate, so I love adding something with some gravitas.

3. A Crochet Lace Skirt gets a simple tee.

Deidre gave me this skirt last summer, and I wore it everywhere. Pretty much always with a white t-shirt or white blouse. Why? Because I don't like too much going on. I'm a simple dresser at heart, and if I'm making a statement with one piece, the rest is almost quiet for me.

You know I love tone-on-tone when I'm doing some kind of trend. That's so you don't look like you bought the outfit off the mannequin, and it just looks more grown-up and sophisticated for a "fun" look.

The jacket is just in case I'm dressing up for a meeting or dinner. So I have linen, cotton, crochet, leather and horn on all at once. And it all works because the emphasis is on texture.

Lots of crochet or lace skirts and dresses out there are pretty short. So be careful yours hits no higher than just above the knees.
