Make Room In Your Closet For Fall Sweaters and Boots!

Tina, here.

Fall has arrived - it's time to pull out sweaters and boots and start making pumpkin bread! When was the last time you cleaned out your closet? It might be time. Before you switch over your to your Fall wardrobe, let's make space by cleaning out what you no longer wear, or should not be wearing :).  I can help you. Think of it as a seasonal reset. Less clutter, more clarity, and fabulous go-to outfits that work every time so you feel amazing and can get on with your life, instead of fretting about what you're going to put on every morning.

Signs It's Time To Clean Out Your Closet

1. You still have "goal weight" clothes.

These taunt you. Let them go. The right clothes can make you look and feel fabulous today. It's not about your weight; it's about the right clothes. I can put you in the right clothes today that make you look and feel fabulous today.

2. You have clothes in your closet that if you saw them in a store today, you would not buy them again.

Just because you haven't worn it and it still has the tags on it, if it doesn't make you happy today, and it was a mistake then, it doesn't need to take up space in your life now. No need to keep paying for yesterday's or last year's mistakes.

3. You're still wearing the same colors you wore in college.

Over time, not only does our hair color morph into something different than it was when we were in college, but more consequentially, we lose pigment in our complexion, which is what really changes the makeup and colors we look good wearing.

4. You have shoes and jewelry that were trendy 3 years ago.

You have TONS of shoes and jewelry that need to be tossed. Trust me. Nothing ages us more than wearing outdated trends, and trends have a much shorter shelf life than we like to admit, especially if we overpaid for them.

If you're not sure about something, try it on with your spanx and the shoes you'd wear with it (we want a reasonable idea of how it looks). Stand in front of the mirror and take a selfie. You get a MUCH more accurate reflection of what it really looks likes on you from this picture than looking at yourself in the mirror. Strange but true.

If you reeeally can't get rid of something, then stick it in a purgatory pile to be escorted off to a faraway closet, preferably that is difficult to get to, like an attic. If you don't miss it for six months, then it leaves your life for good.

The biggest problem I see is not that women don't have anything great to wear; it's that they're wearing their pieces the wrong way. Case in point. How do you wear ankle boots with slim ankle jeans? How long should the jeans be? How tall can the booties be? Should you cuff your jeans if they're too long? Do you tuck your jeans into your boots? And so on and so on.

If your jeans are a tad, but just a tad long, you can ever so slightly turn up the hem so that the bottom of your jeans graze the tops of your ankle boots.

Wearing cowboy boots or equestrian (knee-length) boots over slim jeans looks great as long as they don't scrunch too much around your knees like elephant knees. If there is absolutely no scrunching, then you are wearing leggings, which are not pants, so head back into your closet and put on pants, mkay cupcakes?

Here are some of my favorite new Fall sweaters and boots you'll need to make room for in your closets now!
