You Can Wear Your Leather This Spring!

Bout to rock your world, here, dolls. Did you know leather and suede are year-round fabrics? I'm going to show you how to wear your fall leather skirts this spring, because that's one of my favorite things to do: show you how to stretch your wardrobe into multiple uses and seasons, especially if I'm using an investment piece like a leather skirt.

White jeans in winter? You've met your match. Meet leather skirts in spring. It's a brave new world. But let's cover quickly why it's perfectly acceptable, if you so choose, to now violate the old social mores our mothers insisted on for good taste.

If white jeans can be a staple for the doyennes of Palm Beach in winter, and a leather skirt works for a DC powerbroker doing her spring luncheon circuit, I think it's safe to say that ladies who lunch and rule have carried us into the 21st century, safeguarding our membership to the Gentlewoman's Club. No one's offering up midriffs, miniskirts or hooker heels as "ok" for a lady, just some great fabrics that stretch a sensible woman's wardrobe from one season into another without purchasing all new clothes.

1. Trade your winter jewel tones for something lighter to pop leather in spring.

You brunettes who love the deep colors of fall and winter, you can carry your black or brown leather skirt you wore with jewel tone sweaters this winter into spring, but by pairing them with white. That's the key.

Instead of your boots, now grab a nude heel or flat so it doesn't feel so bottom-heavy.

Both blondes with fair skin and brunettes with more color in your complexion will appreciate trading your jewel tone tops for a crisp white top (or ivory if you can't wear white) to get that spring pop you need.

2. Take your leather skirt for a casual spin this spring.

If you're working with a black leather skirt, I'd choose a white denim jacket or the faded denim. Just keep the outfit's supporting colors light with your leather, which can feel heavy otherwise.

I have been wearing my Converse constantly lately. In fact, because they are so comfortable, I packed a group of women for a week in Paris and one of them traipsed all over gay Par-ee in hers!

3. One final point - I'm not a fan of leather that's the color of Easter eggs - you can wear a neutral leather in both winter and spring a lot easier than you can pink leather.

Trade your wool sweaters for cotton tops.

This look would work with black leather as well - the idea is to switch out darker, winter tones for lighter ones to pair with leather in spring.
