Your Guide To (the still trending yet difficult to wear) Cropped Flare Jeans
Tina, here.
Let's review. Cropped pants are really cute. They are short pants. But they are not evil capris. There is a big difference. Huge. Here's a visual.
These are evil capris. They make your legs look short and your ankles look big. No one looks good in them. No one.
These are (skinny) ankle pants. À la Audrey Hepburn. My mother called them peddle pushers. They may hit a bit higher than the ankle bones on some women, but that's ok as long as you're ok with your ankles (and you should be - no one's really looking anyway). If you don't like your ankles, you won't like ankle pants because they will give you "kankles." Skinny pants also create an inverted triangle, placing emphasis on your hips. If you do not like emphasizing your hips, you may not like wearing skinny ankle pants.
These are cropped flares:
A cropped flare is basically a bootcut pant that is, well, cropped. Why do they work? That bit of flare at the leg opening balances out your hips, just like full-length bootcut pants do. And we know that a wider pant opening lengthens the legs. The perfect length for cropped flares is juuuust above the ankle.
These Theory cropped flares are a touch above my ankle bones, but I filled in the gap with the ankle strap of my heels. In fact, cropped flares are excellent for showcasing your fabulous strappy heels. If you find your cropped flares are too short, see if you can let out some of the hem. Conversely, you can also take up the hem if you need to.

Here are some more ways to wear cropped flare pants and jeans.
For a Saturday football game*
*If you wear booties with your cropped flare jeans or pants, I like the top of the bootie to be just covered by the bottom of the pants.
For a party
To run around town in, looking cute I might add :)
As you can see, cropped flares are pretty versatile. Don't go overboard with them, though. Just one or two pairs hanging in your closet should be enough.
