Green is Your New Fall Color
Tina, here.
There's a new color this season. You need it. You can wear it. You will love it.
And it's green. We've seen army green the past few seasons, but I have a hunch we're branching into more wintergreens and hunter greens and even pine greens. You know why I love green? Because turquoise is part green, and I love turquoise. And because it's one of the only (I think the only) primary color I wear with black.
Let's give green a go, shall we? Here's how to wear green and not look silly (no kelly green) or under the weather (avoid yellow-greens) or any of the other traps you can fall into wearing green.
1. Green And Animal Print
I am a big fan of this "Christmas tree" green. I got it at J.Crew a million years ago, and I brought it out again last winter, and I plan on taking it around the block a few times this fall and winter too. I just love driving that cost per wear down on a good investment piece.
Why animal print? Because I kind of treat green like a neutral. Just like I do deep plums, that gorgeous color you may see in a brilliant sunset. These are the colors of nature after all. And so they tend to look good with other natural themes. Because my green is bright, I went soft on pattern so I didn't have two bold statements at once.
2. Green And Black
There is something pretty sharp about pairing green with black. They just play well together. A color theorist could tell us why, I just know they do. You know what else I love green with? White. And you know what looks awful with green? Red. Sorry, but it does. Not trying to be a grinch.
Big important point here, dolls. When you are wearing a crew neck, don't forget to break up the neckline with a necklace. Mkay cupcakes?
3. Green As A Neutral
Here's how you wear green as neutral - choose a softer, muted tone of green like this evergreen. Or a pine green. One that's not so electric.
With a softer green, you'll feel like wearing it with everything from other neutrals like grey or ivory or brown, and with brighter colors like this flash of a turquoise bead necklace.
If you can't wear green next to your face but want to embrace this color for the new season, choose an open jacket or maybe even a fun shoe with green. I've put together a collection you can shop inside the Vault of my favorite green fashion right now, and Complete Insiders you get an extra treat -
