High Heat! How To Dress For The Dog Days Of Summer

Tina, here.

The dog days of Summer, the hottest days of the year are upon us. This means we need clothes we can wash and wear since we're most likely, um, perspiring more in them. You will be tempted to wear camp counselor clothes - t-shirts and gym shorts. And if you don't wear shorts, you'll be tempted to wear half-pants. May I advise, don't. We are grown women. We have beautiful clothes. And we can live in them and sweat in them and wash them and repeat. There are some really good options for hiding sweat, and I'm sharing them with you now.

How To Hide Sweat

White for the win! We know I'm obsessed with white clothes: white jeans, white t-shirts, white dresses. That's because white is the perfect foil to all the bright colors I'm always looking at online and often buying for clients. Also, every color under the sun looks good with white, so you can multiply your outfits. And, in the Summer, white is cool. But it also conceals sweat. Black conceals sweat, too, but it can just feel so hot in high heat. Colors that will highlight sweat are grey, pink, red, bright blue, and basically any bright color.

Next, fabric. It seems like cotton would be the natural choice for Summer clothes. But actually, while cotton is absorbent, it is not wicking, so polyester and nylon are good options. This is what we need for the under layer, if you know what I mean. Look to runners, what do they wear? This is what they wear. Good enough for me. I like sleeveless tops, and for those of you who like to cover your arms, there are great gauzy cardigans and wraps you can add. There are great "exercise" clothes (read: wicking or dri-fit) that look and act like real clothes!

What about the top layers? Here are some cool, summery outfits for these high heat days...enjoy them while they last. The trick is finding lightweight pieces that wick away sweat and don't look like exercise clothes. I wear a lot of white jeans and skorts and polos - look in the tennis section for cute ones!

Thank you so much for stopping by, and seize these Summer days while you can!
