Boyfriend Sweaters, aka Oversized

Tina, here.

Boyfriend sweaters are sooo comfy and cozy, especially on the first cool days of Fall when you don't want to full on commit to a pullover, and definitely not yet to a turtleneck. It's like part of a sweater! But they're so, well, they're just so prone to being frumpy. Which is why when they were called grandfather sweaters and aptly conjured up old men shuffling around in rumpled, moth-eaten clothes, the cool kids renamed them boyfriend sweaters. So here's how to wear a grandfather boyfriend sweater, like a lady.

Outfit Details:

(Most of what I wear I've had for years ~ my philosophy is buy what you love and keep wearing it, mixing it up into fresh outfits each new season, without buying all the time. Links are to specific items when available, and similar if you want to add something to your mix!)

Boyfriend Sweater (similar, mine is last year's Ann Taylor, this is this year's style),  ShellJeansFlats (similar, and similar, mine are Harold's c. 1994 :-) ),  Necklace (similar, made by my neighbor - email me if you'd like one!)

First rule, don't button up your cardigan. Leave it open. Sometimes, you may want to fasten just the middle or middle two buttons to define a waist. But generally, a buttoned-up cardigan is a little fusty. ALSO important, VERY, scrunch your sleeves (that's a video to show you how). Show your wrists and forearms!

This is a no.

If your cardigan is oversized, buy the smallest possible size you can wear. Avoid puff sleeves, and keep the length to just under your bum.

Another rule of thumb: if you're wearing something bulky or long on top, pair it with something fitted on your bottom half, specifically through your hips and thighs. Long, bulky boyfriend cardigan? Add slim jeans.
